Who this may suit
Event planners, conference organisers, exhibition managers and wedding coordinators considering Australian migration.
Key considerations
- VETASSESS assesses 149311 as a Group C occupation.
- The occupation is on the STSOL, but is absent from the current CSOL.
- Event sales, hospitality supervision and assisting at events do not automatically demonstrate organiser-level work.
Identify your responsibility for the event
VETASSESS includes event planners, exhibition organisers and wedding coordinators within this occupation. It distinguishes event-management work from roles primarily concerned with selling venues, catering operations, marketing or administration.
For your preparation notes, describe an event from the client brief to delivery. Explain which suppliers you coordinated, what resources you controlled and how you dealt with changes. A job title such as “Event Executive” is less informative than a clear account of the decisions you owned.
The assessment guidance expects managerial duties, including some budget monitoring or management. Be precise about whether you set a budget, tracked spending, sought approvals or simply received instructions.
Check the qualification and employment pathway
This is a Group C occupation with an AQF Diploma-or-higher qualification requirement. A highly relevant qualification can support a pathway requiring at least one year of relevant post-qualification employment in the last five years, at 20 hours or more per week. Other qualification combinations require different employment periods.
Event Management is a relevant study field. A broader hospitality, marketing or communications degree needs its actual event-related content considered. Obtain transcripts rather than assuming the course title resolves this question.
Use the current VETASSESS pathway chart for your combination of qualifications and work. Do not turn the shortest pathway into a promise that every applicant needs only one year.

Prepare event evidence that shows your contribution
Create a concise list of representative events with dates, format, duration and scope. Explain your role separately from the work of the venue, caterer, marketing team and contractors. Identify someone able to verify your responsibilities.
VETASSESS encourages evidence of events managed. A practical preparation pack could connect the employment chronology with a few event summaries, showing how responsibilities developed over time. Follow the official submission checklist rather than uploading every event photograph or promotional brochure.
Protect attendees’ personal information and client-confidential material. A photograph of a large event does not, by itself, establish that you organised it or held paid employment.
Understand which migration routes the list supports
149311 is on the STSOL. It can support the occupation requirement for state-nominated 190 or 491, subject to state selection and the other visa criteria. It does not satisfy the MLTSSL occupation requirement for a new 189 Points-tested or family-sponsored 491 application.
The current CSOL instruments do not list 149311. Do not assume that an event-industry job offer therefore creates a standard 482 Core Skills or 186 Direct Entry pathway. Other employer-sponsored streams or arrangements need a separate assessment where relevant.
Home Affairs uses ANZSCO 2013 for these points-tested pathways and ANZSCO 2022 for 482 and 186. Always check the stream as well as the six-digit code.

Plan the next step around the gaps
Before paying for an assessment, identify the unresolved issue: qualification relevance, length of suitable employment, managerial responsibility or an available visa route. Gather the evidence for that issue first.
If you moved from event sales or administration into organising, mark the change in your timeline. An assessment and points calculation should not assume every earlier role carried the same duties.
How we can help
Ausdirect can help distinguish event delivery from related commercial or hospitality roles and identify whether your evidence supports a suitable assessment and visa strategy.
Questions to consider
Does planning my own wedding count as employment?
A personal event does not establish relevant paid employment. Review the professional employment and evidence requirements rather than relying on a successful private project.
Can a venue sales manager use this occupation?
VETASSESS expressly distinguishes venue and event sales managers from this code. A mixed role requires a careful review of its main duties and responsibility for delivery.
Does STSOL membership guarantee state nomination?
No. National occupation eligibility and a state’s current selection rules are separate. Check both before committing to a migration plan.
