Western Australia’s State Nomination Migration Program (SNMP) will soon be accessible by more international students who are studying or planning to study in Western Australia.
On 16 October 2019, its premier, Mark McGowan, announced the Graduate Stream of the SNMP will be extended to include vocational education and training (VET) graduates who complete a qualification in Western Australia at AQF Certificate III level or above, excluding trade occupations (unless approved for delivery to international students).
Other upcoming changes to the SNMP Graduate stream will also include:
- Studies in Higher Education, VET and/or English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) at Western Australia will also count towards the nomination requirement of two academic years of full time study;
- A reduction in the length of period of full time work experience and employment contract required for state nomination. From December 2019, nominee is required to only have 6 months of full-time Australian work experience in the nominated occupation on the Graduate Occupation List OR 6-month full-time contract of employment in the nominated occupation on the Graduate Occupation List.
The first invitation round to include VET graduates will be issued in December 2019.
A new Graduate Occupation List and updated eligibility criteria for the Graduate stream will be published on the Migration portal prior to the December invitation round.
